The journey from Annan in Scotland down to Builth Wells proved more than worthwhile for Ali Jackson and his team of helpers with his Tiptop flock. Ali’s experienced show ewe, Tiptop Encor led the way in the aged ewe class, and remained at the top for the Female Championship, followed closely by Supreme honours.
Judge, Laura Monk, of the Saveock flock in Cornwall, couldn’t take her eyes off the ewe, “she had such power and was very well balanced for being 2021 born.” Laura expected a strong turnout of sheep, and was not disappointed, with the top end of the classes being exceptional, making her decisions difficult throughout.
The Champion is a daughter of the homebred ram, Tiptop Diablo, and her mother an imported ewe, named Bellino. In the other classes, the Tiptop flock alongside son Robbie’s Rigghead flock, were placed 1st with their Royal Highland Show Champion, Merryboro Iris Moon Glow, purchased from Tom and Louise Nash last August at Lockerbie for 3000gns. Ali himself took 2nd place in the strong gimmer class with his homebred Whatmore Forty Winx daughter, Tiptop Izzy. To round-off the rosettes, the Tiptop flock also took 1st prize in the Group of Three class.
Reserve Supreme Champion honours went to Darren Witcomb and Cara Morgan’s 1st prize ram lamb, Aberhonddu Jack The Lad; the combination of Derg Imperial onto Merryboro Geranium did the trick for the flock, when he also scooped the Interbreed ram lamb championship the following day. After the show, Jack The Lad was sold privately to the Tiptop and Rigghead flocks for £10,000, certainly a week to remember for the Brecon-based flock.
The Aberhonddu flock also won the shearling ram class, with their stock ram, Derg Imperial, which sired the 1st prize ram lamb. He was purchased privately from Allan Short in Northern Ireland in 2025.
The Reserve Male and Reserve Female titles both went to regular exhibitors, Dale & Robbie Wilson with their Cnwch Flock. Their homebred aged ram, Cnwch Hot Rooster was 1st in the aged ram class, he’s had a great show season, winning the same class at the Royal Highland Show a few weeks earlier, and remains unbeaten in the show ring. This Beili Gilbert son, went on to become Reserve Male Champion. The couple were also placed 1st and 2nd in the strong ewe lamb class; the 1st, Cnwch Je Ne Sais Quoi, a Cnwch Emilio daughter, claimed the Reserve Female Champion ticket, the same result for the ewe lamb as at the Royal Highland Show, while their 2nd, was the Rhosymadoc Furth daughter, Cnwch J’adore. Not to be outdone, flock favourite, Cnwch Fleur-de-lys, was placed 2nd in the aged ewe class behind the Champion of the day.
Cheshire based, Chloe Harding who runs the Dustland Flock, had a consistent show, taking two 2nd prizes, firstly, Dustland Incredible, a Dustland Hex son, was 2nd in the shearling ram class, followed by Dustland Jackthelad, being placed 2nd in the ram lamb class. The ram lamb was sired by an imported ram, named Vermeer, and out of Dustland Harlow. Finally, well known exhibitor, Sian Jones and family, were placed 2nd in the aged ram class with the homebred Rhosymadoc Hercules. This Mount Pleasant Desmond son, was out of Glencloy Eden.
