‘She’s an ICON, she’s a legend and she is the moment’ – Iconic steals the Show at Balmoral

Reserve Interbreed - Craigdoo Iconic Male Champion - Craigdoo Jackpot Reserve Male Champion - Binnian Jack the Lad

Judge: Ali Jackson, Tiptop Flock

The Dutch Spotted classes at Balmoral Show 2026 once again demonstrated the tremendous popularity and quality of the breed, with an exceptional turnout of sheep presented across all classes. Exhibitors travelled from far and wide to compete at one of the most prestigious agricultural events in the calendar, and the standard throughout the day was a credit to both breeders and stockmen alike.

Despite unsettled weather earlier in the morning, judging took place in favourable conditions before a packed ringside, with spectators showing great interest throughout the classes. Judge Ali Jackson had the difficult task of sorting through strong line-ups in every section, commenting on the outstanding depth of quality, correctness, and breed character on display.

It was the shearling ewes who caught Ali’s eye the most, where he found his Overall and Female Champion in Craigdoo Iconic from P&O Grant. Ali commented that his champion caught his eye from when she entered the ring and just had a little more flash than his reserve female and reserve overall champion. This was another of the shearling ewes exhibited by P&O Grant, Craigdoo Indigo. The Grants also had third place in the shearling ewe class with Craigdoo Irresistible. Iconic also went on to be reserve interbreed champion on the Friday.

Success for the Grant Family didn’t stop there, as their ram lamb, Craigdoo Jackpot was tapped out as male champion. Following closely behind was Binnian Jack the Lad, the second place ram lamb and reserve male champion.

In a strong ewe lamb class, Adrian Trainor was first place with Binnian Josie and in second place was P&O Grant with a paternal sister to their first place ram lamb, Craigdoo Jitterbug.

Ali Jackson commented on the standout females on show and mentioned that his champion and reserve champion were both sheep you wouldn’t mind having at home.

Congratulations to all exhibitors on a great show and the after social was enjoyed by all who attended.
