NO SHOW DUE TO BLUE TONGUE MOVEMENT RESTRICTIONS
Following on from a split sale venue in 2025 at Lockerbie and Carlisle, everything was looking very much business as normal until the Scottish Government introduced temporary BT zones for part of Dumfries and Galloway and a reduction in the 4-day movement rule for Scottish sheep down to 1-day. This left the Society having to re-jig the schedule of the order of the sale, leaving no room for a pre-sale show on the Friday afternoon.
FEMALES
The sale was dominated by a strong female trade, with the sale leading price coming from Tom and Louise Nash’s Merryboro flock based in Pembrokeshire. The natural born February ewe lamb, Merryboro Just Look at My Eyes, certainly caught the eye of Mary Julia Cornish, Buckfastleigh, Devon, when the hammer was knocked down at 4500gns. She was sired by Dutch Dominator and out of an imported ewe, DKNY, and is full sister to Merryboro Hercules and Hollywood Dream Girl.
Leading the shearling ewe section was Derek and Cindy Steen from just over the Border at Lockerbie. Their leading entry, Coxhill Incandescent was sired by Craigdoo Game Changer and out of Pentre Extra Special; she sold for 4000gns to Messrs Robb for their Stairstar flock at Mauchline, Ayrshire.
Following on from there, Messrs Cornish purchased the next top female lots to add to their expanding Mardle flock based in Devon. Firstly, Mourneview Indigo, consigned by G Troup, and bred by G McCabe and M Quinn, for 3500gns; this big powerful gimmer was sired by Ty-Gwyn Diego. Next, Middlemoor Imelda from the Stead family based near Richmond, North Yorkshire, for 2500gns and their final purchase was the Tiptop Fang sired gimmer, Coxhill Islay from D Steen, for 2200gns.
MALES
It was an entry late in the sale from Ali Jackson, Tiptop flock that took the leading price in the ram section, with his lamb, Tiptop Joss (ET) selling for 3200gns to the Whiteford family, from nearby Bampton, Carlisle. This powerful ram, was sired by Woodtown Ironic and out of the homebred Tiptop Ginger.
Following this in the leading ram prices, the shearling rams were dominant with G & K Willilams leading the section with Dragon I’m the Man, homebred on both sides, sired by Dragon Hari and out of Dragon Dizzy, he was knocked down at 3000gns to T & L Nash to join their Merryboro flock.
Next up, Dansi Invincible, bred by E Jones and consigned once again by G & K Williams, Dragon flock, sold for 2500gns to J Pattinson, for his Kinkry Hill Flock based near Carlisle. This shearling was sired by Wedderburn Dancer and out of a Merryboro dam.
The Scottish Farmer build-up feature article on A & J Guthrie, Selkirk certainly did the trick, when they sold the homebred Myreside Iggy to Messrs French, Banff, Aberdeen for 2200gns. Shown successfully as a lamb in 2025, he was sired by Cnwch Hymac.
Never far away from the limelight is the Elite flock of Lara Reid, this time, her shearling ram Elite Impulsive, sired by Diamond Gypsy King, was knocked down at 2000gns to D Steen, who invested some of his days earnings.
