31 July 2026
Rams
Jack Whiteford’s Blackjack flock followed his success from the summer shows, into the sale season at Carlisle on Friday, when not only did he take the Supreme Championship in the pre-sale show, but also the top price with his unshown ram lamb. Blackjack Jeff, an ET January-born lamb, sired by Jack’s Highland and Yorkshire show winning shearling ram, Milltown Ivor Williams, was out of the homebred, Hazelberry Gee Wizz daughter, Blackjack Hot Pants. Jeff sold for 6,200gns and joined the Robertshaw’s flock, owned by James Robertshaw, based near Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Following this, Jack Whiteford sold his Champion, Blackjack Jackpot ET, the 1st prize ram lamb and full ET brother to his sale leader, for 6,000gns to L Roberts, for their Dunfermline-based Craigduckie flock. Another two ram lambs out of Jack’s pen, the same way bred, sold for 3,500gns and 3,000gns. The first, Blackjack Jelly Belly ET headed down to Derbyshire with M Tomlinson, and the second, Blackjack Jolly Rancher ET sold to H Nunnerley based on the Welsh border at Oswestry in Shropshire.
Darren Whitcomb and Cara Morgan’s Aberhonddu flock had lots of interest in their pen of ram lambs, with their number one, Aberhonddu Jaguar taking 2nd in the pre-sale show. This 10,000gns Milltown Hank The Tank son, sold for 4,500gns to Jack Whiteford. The same sire was responsible for two further lots from the Whitcomb and Morgan team reaching a respective 3500gns for Aberhonddu Just a Tank ET to Messrs Lloyd, Llanrwst, Conwy followed by Aberhonddu Jackpot for 2500gns to Messrs Maidment, Pewsey, Wiltshire.
Never far away are Mark and Robbie McCornick. this time, their Royal Highland Show Male Champion, Barquhill Jeremy ET, sired by Boyo Idol, sold in a two-way split to J Morton, from nearby Penrith and Messrs Ivinson, also Penrith. Selling for the same money was Lara Reid’s Elite James Bond; this boy won 1st prize ram lamb at the Scottish National Show at Doune and Dunblane Show aswell as 1st at the Yorkshire Show a few weeks earlier. James Bond found a new home down in Yeovil, Somerset with Messrs Thompson.
The final ram to make over the 3000gns mark was breed stalwart, Ali Jackson. He sold Tiptop JD, a Limestone Iceman son for 3200gns to C Hector, Wedmore, Somerset and L Monk, Cornwall.
Females
Scottish breeders led the way in the female section of the sale, with the McCornick brothers selling to a top of 4500gns for their 2nd prize shearling ewe. Barquhill Imogen ET, sired by the proven Westbroad Diego and out of the homebred Barquhill F, joins the Aberhonddu flock of D Witcomb and C Morgan. Next best from this good home, was the shearling ewe, Barquhill Iona ET, who stood 3rd in the pre-sale show; out of the same dam as their pen leader, but this time sired by Merryboro He’s the Man, she sold to G Lockyer, Winforton, Herefordshire.
The 1st prize ewe lamb, and Reserve Supreme Champion from Callum Dodd, Hazelberry Juniper ET, sold for 4000gns to the Stead family, Middlemoor Flock based near Richmond, North Yorkshire. This end of January born lamb was sired by Blackjack I Am Titanium and out of the homebred Hazelberry Honeysuckle.
Once again, the Blackjack flock is never far away, this time Jack sold his shearling ewe, Blackjack Iris ET for 2400gns to local breeder, O Marrs, Carlisle. The final female to break the 2000gns barrier was Ali Jackson’s Tiptop Jade ET, this Tiptop Ironman sired ewe lamb which had been shown during the summer, sold to C Furness & T Gregory, Buxton Derbyshire.
