Friday 12th September

Judge - Charlie Boden

This September marked the inaugural Dutch Spotted Show and Sale at Leek Market — and what an impressive turnout it was.
With 78 head of sheep entered, there was plenty for breeders to choose from.

The evening began with the show, judged by Charlie Boden, who was met with a strong lineup of entries. The Overall Breed Champion of the night was a shearling ewe from J & S Simpson. Named Back Tor High Hopes, she was sired by Tiptop Gadzooks and out of a home-bred ewe. She truly lived up to her name, topping the sale at 1180gns and finding her new home with M. Kilroe.

J & S Simpson continued their success by taking Reserve Breed Champion with their shearling ram, Back Tor Hot Stuff, who sold for 680gns to IF & RW Smith.

There was significant interest in the winning ewe lamb as soon as she entered the ring, Fachwen Immy, bred by A. Breese, who was awarded Reserve Female Champion went on to sell for 1120gns, also to M. Kilroe. Other ewe lambs reached strong prices of 800gns and 740gns, reflecting the quality on offer that evening.

Ram lambs sold steadily, with the Reserve Male Champion, Martini Ignition from R. Dykes, selling for 350gns to J A Fox.

Although only a handful of aged rams were entered, there was still solid demand. Shebb Gregory, from Zoe Chadwick, achieved 600gns.

This inaugural sale has clearly highlighted the demand for Dutch Spotted Sheep in the Derbyshire area with buyers and sellers flocking from all over to attend.
