Whatmore flock tops Dutch Spotted Welshpool sale at 6000gns..

A shearling ewe from the Whatmore flock of Steve and Sara Gibbons, Tregoyd, Brecon, topped the Dutch Spotted sale at 6000gns, held at Welshpool Livestock Market on the 22nd August. Whatmore Hassle is by Whatmore Forty Winx and out of Whatmore Echo who is by the renowned Glencloy Chance and out of the 20,000gns Candy Floss. Following competitive bidding, she was secured by Tom Buckland, Abertysswg, Caerphilly, for his McLaren flock.

Champion on the day was a ewe lamb, Aberhonddu Iconic Lady, from Darren Witcomb and Cara Morgan, Garthbengy, Brecon. She is by Merryboro Hanky Panky and out of Diamond Finnley and was later sold for 3200gns to the judge Tracy Evans, Cantref, Brecon, backing her judgement on the day to join her Beacons flock.

Next best and topping the male trade at 2400gns was the male champion and reserve overall, Cnwch Hedgehunter from A R P and D R Wilson, Llanbister, Powys. He is sired by Cnwch Emilio out of the imported Emerald and was snapped up by G Williams, Derwen, Corwen.

At 2000gns, Winsfield Icon was sold by J Bowen, Llanwern, Brecon. This ewe lamb is by the imported Rotterdam and out of Saint Clear Faas 4 and was purchased by previous buyer Tracey Evans. Another ewe lamb at the same money came from S and S Gibbons in the form of Whatmore Itch. This one is by Glencoy Chance and out of Whatmore Gorgeous and was another secured on the day by Tom Buckland.

Top price for the ram lambs was 1800gns for Whatmore Ice-man from S and S Gibbons capping off a tremendous day for the Whatmore flock. This lamb is sired by Wedderburn Gregory Pecker and out of Navac Candy and will be the new stock sire for the McLaren flock of Tom Buckland.

At 1700gns, Matthew Jones, Talsarnau, Gwynedd, sold Glan-Y-Mor Harmony to I and G Lloyd, Llanrwst, Conwy. This shearling ewe stood first in her class earlier in the day and is sired by Irthing Valley Goliath and out of Coxhill Exquisite.

Tom and Louise Nash, Wiston, Haverfordwest, topped their trade at 1600gns for Merryboro It’s on My Mind. This ewe lamb is by Merryboro Gladiator out of the imported Lady Million and was sold to I Thompson, Yeovil, Somerset.

Another shearling ram from A R P and D R Wilson sold at 1500gns in the form of Cnwch Higher Tor. This one is sired by Woodies Falcon and out of Cnwch Ferrero Class and was sold to C Owen, Sarn, Pwllheli.

The first prize ram lamb on the day came from Alastair Jackson, Annan, Dumfriesshire, in the form of Tiptop Intern. This lamb is sired by Tiptop High Flyer and out of Tiptop Ginger finding his new home with W R Jones, Llanegryn, Tywyn.
